French Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneaux resigned less than a month after taking office, just a day after announcing a new cabinet. The French presidential office said in a statement on Monday that President Emmanuel Macron had accepted the resignation of his close ally Le Corneaux.
Outgoing French Prime Minister Sébastien Le Corneille said on Monday (October 6) that none of the conditions for him to remain in office were met.
Previously, Sebastien Lecornu took over as Prime Minister after the fall of François Beiro’s government, but he had to resign after just 26 days.
Several parties have now called for early elections. Some have even called for Macron to resign. However, he has said he will not step down before his term ends in 2027.
Marine Pell Lane, leader of the right-wing National Rally (RN), said the wisest thing to do now would be to hold elections.
He said, “There have been many such pranks. The French people are fed up now. Macron has put the country in a difficult situation. France has had five prime ministers in the last two years. Tensions have been rising in French politics since last year.”
