Iraq calls for 'Islamic military alliance' to counter Israel

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has called for the formation of an Islamic military alliance to respond to Israeli attacks on Gaza and Qatar, in an interview with Al Jazeera ahead of the upcoming Arab Islamic summit in Qatar.
Iraq calls for ‘Islamic military alliance’ to counter Israel and he said it is the time to get revenge for our brother’s death.

The Iraqi Prime Minister said, “Five Hamas leaders and a Qatari security official were killed in an Israeli attack in Doha last Tuesday. This Israeli attack is a gross violation of international law. It proves that Israel’s actions threaten the security of the entire region.”

Al-Sudani also told Al Jazeera that there is no reason why Muslim countries cannot form a joint security force to defend themselves. He called on Arab and Islamic countries to build political, security and economic partnerships.

His comments come as preparations for an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha are set to discuss the response to the Israeli attack on Qatar and the long-discussed activation of a joint Arab military force. Egypt proposed this initiative almost a decade ago.

The Iraqi prime minister insisted that the Islamic world had “many ways” to stop Israel. He warned that the Israeli “aggression will not stop in Qatar.” He also referred to the nearly two-year-long killing spree in Gaza.

Qatar is hosting an emergency two-day Arab-Islamic summit on Monday and Tuesday to respond to Israeli attacks targeting Hamas leaders in Doha.

The conference is being held to show support for Qatar following Israel’s attack on leaders of the Palestinian independence militant group Hamas in Doha last week. Hamas said five of its members were killed in the attack, but the organization’s top leaders were unharmed.

The US-allied Gulf Arab states are trying to unite over the Israeli airstrike, which has further strained relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel, which normalized relations with Israel in 2020.
