Previous popular features are returning to Facebook! Will nostalgia return?

Once upon a time, one of Facebook’s most popular features was ‘Poke’. The feature was used to get someone’s attention, make fun of them, or just annoy them. Over time, it almost disappeared. However, recently, the use of Poke has started to increase again among young users. So previous popular features are returning to Facebook.

From now on, Facebook users will be able to poke friends directly from their profile. There is no need to search or find them from any other page. It can be done directly. Similarly, if someone pokes you, you will get a notification. Apart from this, you will also get the opportunity to use various emojis.

This new Poke Count is mainly aimed at the younger generation. Just as the ‘Strikes’ feature on apps like TikTok or Snapchat measures the depth of friendship through daily contact, Facebook’s Poke Count will also convey the closeness of virtual relationships. Those who used Facebook before 2014 will remember it well. ‘Poking’ friends was a big trend back then. Many people used to poke the person they liked to flirt. The ‘poke’ feature, which debuted in 2004, was removed in 2014. Now, the feature is making a comeback.

Facebook first tried to bring back Poke in March 2024, adding the option to poke directly by searching for a friend’s name in the search bar. Meta claims that within a month of that change, the rate of pokes increased 13 times. Only time will tell whether Facebook’s new Poke feature will be popular or not, but it’s clear that Meta is still using various tactics to keep users engaged.
