33 Proposal set for implementation for Bangladesh's healthcare reform

The Ministry of Health has selected 33 recommendations from the health sector reform commission to improve Bangladesh’s health system and has pledged to implement them quickly. It is reported that the department of health services will implement 23 of these 33 recommendations, and the Department of Medical Education and family welfare will jointly implement the remaining recommendations with their respective organizations.

Since the interim government in Bangladesh has not made much progress in terms of health, experts are urging the rapid implementation of the recommendations of the organization Commission. Experts also said that the Ministry of Health will need the co-operation of the Ministries of Public Administration, Home Affairs, and Finance to implement many of the recommendations.

The Health Care Department has revealed that 23 recommendations have already been categorized into short-term (6 months), medium-term (1-2 years), and long-term (above 2 years) plans, which will be implemented in phases.

The interim government formed a reform commission in November last year to overhaul the health sector, and its report was submitted on May 5. In view of this, a discussion meeting on the implementation of the recommendation of the Health Reform commission was held on May 20 at the Senate Building on May 20. There 33 petitions were presented.

Among 33 petitions, the issue of making primary healthcare a fundamental right and enacting a law on this is of great importance. In addition, there is a strong call for revising the list of essential medicines and determining fair prices.
